Bestselling author, speaker, and success coach Jen Sincero cuts through the din of the self-help genre with her own verbal meat cleaver. Full of blunt humor, sage advice, and the occasional swear word, You are a Badass offers its readers new opportunities for growth through 35 chapters of exercises, suggestions, and hilariously inspiring stories.
From "Fear is for Suckers" to "Your Brain is Your Bitch" these chapters provide enlightening lessons: How to stop doubting your greatness, how to love what you don't love about yourself, and how to tap into source energy to live a bigger life than you've ever imagined.
You Are a Badass
Let me start by stating that I’m not the self-help book type of gal. There’s nothing wrong with the self-help genre; I’ve just never found it appealing or very interesting. Then lo and behold: You are a Badass, by Jen Sincero! Wow…
I’ll tell you how I ended up listening to the audiobook version of this book. My sister recently made a huge move. She packed up everything and moved to another state. Besides leaving her family, friends, career, and everything she knows and loves, one of her pets became very ill. Needless to say, she was down in the dumps (and that’s the rated G version).
I downloaded the book from Audible to put some pep back in her step. After she read it & raved about it, she suggested I do the same. I grudgingly clicked PLAY. Then, I was floored!
This book is funny, poignant, inspirational, and moving. It’s a lot more than that as well. I found myself nodding and smiling and thinking, “Yeah, that’s true!” & “I’m making some changes – right now.” And that’s coming from a non-believer of self-help books 🙂
What You’ll Get From This Book
Positivity! This book is so full of positive vibes that you can’t help but feel it rubbing off on you. It’s like having your own personal, no B.S. cheer team. It’s a double whammy of inspiration and a big ole kick in the pants.
Seriously, this book will get you on the way to stopping the self-doubt that consumes us all, help you set that doubt aside, and then guide you on your way to tweaking the aspects of yourself and your life that you feel need to be altered.
In Closing
Read it. Period. If you’re like me and aren’t really into the self-help thing, just give it a whirl and check out if maybe those first few lines won’t change your mind. Or at the least change your view about this book. That’s me at least. I’m not going to run out and pile up the inspirational manuals, but I will totally keep this book forever. Loved it! This is the first 5-star review of 2016 *applause*.

“You are perfect. To think anything less is as pointless as a river thinking that it’s got too many curves or that it moves too slowly or that its rapids are too rapid. Says who?” – Jen Sincero, You are a Badass

Seeing as I am, in fact, a badass… I think I need to check if my library has this.
*fistbump* From one badass to another, hello! I was surprised by this book. I didn’t expect to like it, let alone love it!
I’m obsessed with self-help for some reason. This book looks great!
My sister is really into self-help books too 🙂 I never got into them myself, but this one blew my mind!
I am bad ass enough, I fear what would happen in I read this – my husband would likely run away…
Ha!! 🙂 It’s a lot more than badassery. It’s like a inspirational and “energy” fuel book (does that make any sense?). You’d like it!
This sounds good.
Definitely, it is! Surprisingly.
I’m just like you and usually veer away from self-help books. But I must say, you’ve got me quite interested on this book!! Adding to my TBR 🙂
Cool! I don’t think you’re going to regret it 🙂
I’m not really into inspirational books either. That title sounds like something I would like though.
Yep, I feel the same 🙂 I think this particular book is different, although I don’t exactly have another self-help book to compare, and I love Sincero’s straightforward way of speaking.
